I sold my 2010 truck with the 5.3L. I drove over 100,000 miles in it, and never got better than 16 on the highway, no matter what I did. Couldn't afford to keep driving it.
I usually run Yukon gears. For drag racing, street, they have stood up fine to a bunch of abuse. Never had a problem.

Ok, I have not had an issue with one, so I can't answer that.
I would say, it should be a good thing that the oil is in coolant, and not other way around.
