I'll give both a shoot. I'm sure the transfercase fluid needs it. I haven't tried lubing the slip joint, so again I'll try that as well.
Okay, this problem is getting progressively worse and has me stumped.
2004 1500 Z71 4WD, 5.3L 323k miles.
The sound is a clunk, which honestly most resembles a sound like a U-joint wearing out...
Take your time and be picky. $10k for an 01 seems very very high.
I love the 5.3L engine. Empty truck going down the highway at 68MPH, I can push 20MPG. If I'm towing a car with a gross trailer...
Well, turned out to be the wheel bearing as suspected. 1.5 hours and all good. Would have gone faster except I put the dust shield on backwards the first time and didn't realize it until I was...
Well, I got two hubs. Not sure I'll replace both of them, but at least this way I have one on hand. Love Rockauto, but waiting for a week isn't always good when I need the truck in action.
That's what it was odd to me at first too. I've replaced lots of wheel bearings over the years in various cars, and all of them squealed and I replaced them immediately so never got to grinding. ...
Okay, truck an 04, 1500 Z71 ext. cab and has 320k miles. Original front end. Today, almost all the way to work (20 miles) started to get a faint grinding from the front end. When I got to work,...

I'll give that a try. Thanks for some other thoughts.

I've had this problem, last 6 months. Battery will be dead if I don't drive the truck for 3-4 days, which is frequent since the truck has 315k miles on it and is a weekend warrior/back up vehicle. ...
Good point about loading the trailer round the axles to put more weight on teh trailer while keeping tongue weight around 400#. Problem with the trailer that I have free access to is that it does...
I understand the basics, but want some more information for a possible tow I may be making.
I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 Z71 Extended cab.
the listed GVWR is 6400 lbs.
curb weight around...
2004 Silverado 1500 5.3L
Noticed this on my last highway trip (and first long distance highway trip). Had set the cruise around 68 MPH. Generally smooth, but when coasting down a hill, the...

Is AC Delco that is listed at rock auto the correct vendor?
I think the fuel pump is part of the issue. Check the connections and voltage to the fuel pump.

I've tried one from Autozone and one from Advance. Both have the same problem, they never stop running. Even at highway speeds when it's 20* outside, they are still running. Well, the advance one...
Things like engine restorer are snake oil. I admit, I tried the slick 50 in my old explorer and had nothing but problems after. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's why my engine never developed oil...
Got the water pump and clutch fan swapped out today. The dash cluster is still acting up. On a cold start, it works right away. However if I restart after the truck is warmed up, the cluster will...
Sorry, forgot I don't have my signature here.
2004 Silverado 1500 4wd.
I'll be pulling the pump out tomorrow and I'll poke around the fuse panel.
So 5 miles from my home tonight, my water pump decided to crap out. No warning until I came to a stop and heard some squealing. Checked gauges, nothing wrong yet. 1 mile later I realize I no...
It's also the fact the front and rear differentials are locked together.
What I used to do in my old explorer was if the conditions were questionable, I would leave it in 4WD while moving up to...

Just curious. I need a few body parts for my truck. I assume 2003-2005 will work, but with 2006?
Specifically, I need an ext. cab door and rear bumper.

I looked a little closer, with a flash light, in the daylight while someone moved the steering wheel. Engine off, just having it turn it as much as he could without power steering. None of the...

It has just shy of 300k miles.
I'm going to get under it at lunch and have someone turn the wheel (engine off) and see if I see any play in the pitman arm to drag link, or if maybe it's a...

I'll take a closer look, but I took a very close look and didn't see any movement. I hate doing tie rod ends. But guess I hate doing pitman and idlers too.

Just picked up a 2004 Chevy 1500.
Now, it's been a long long time since I've owned either a chevy, or a full sized pickup. Had a lot of company trucks, but none I ever had to worry about myself....
