    Default 350 engine with 5 speed

    i have a 79 chevy truck with a 350 and a 14 bolt rear end i need a 5 speed trany with a t-case used any ideas??

    The tranny you want is the NV4500. It was used in 3/4 and 1 tons starting in 1988. I have seen a few 1/2 tons with this tranny but most have a light duty 5 speed you want to avoid. Just look for a 5 speed with a granny low 1st gear, no low first gear, skip it. The strongest transfercase would be a NP205 with a passenger side drop,but finding one that would bolt to a NV4500 without using expensive adapters would be almost impossible. They where only used in 1988-91 1 ton crewcabs. There's not much of a chance finding one in a salvage yard. I would look for a NV/NP 241 passenger side drop transfercase from a 1988-91 Suburban or Blazer. You will have to swap the input gear from 27 spline to 32 spline, but its a easy swap and the gears are available from Advance Adapters or Novak.
