Aloha,
I need some advice. My '97 Suburban stopped blowing cold air and it's hot here in the winter. The non-dealer shop replaced the little fill valve at the front of the compressor and refilled the system (~$300).
The A/C worked fine for about a week then nothing. Because they filled the system with dye, they traced the problem to evaporator core, orifice tube and receiver dryer. They quoted $697 in labor (5.7 hours) because the work was under the dash. The parts were $302 (I priced them online at $130). $100 for freon, and $100 to evac/recharge. Taxes and "shop charges' brought the total to $1146![]()
Do I even want to attempt replacing the parts myself and have a shop evac/recharge? I worry that the first fix they did helped the second failure come on. Anyone had sabotage on their vehicle before?

Opinion I think there is a leak, once recharged it should last quite awhile. Can't talk prices its been 2 years since I had my 97 recharged, that stuff has alway been pricy!
