99" GMC 4.3 liter Fuel Issue Question....
My son has a '99 GMC. When you turn the key on you can hear the fuel pump run (fast clicking type noise) for a short time and then stops. It starts up, but then shuts off almost as fast as it starts. You can do the same thing over and over...starts up, but kills as soon as it starts. This happened once before and after it sat a while it started up fine (about 2 months ago) and had run fine until now. One person thought it was a problem with the factory security system....maybe shutting off the fuel, but he didn't have anyway of checking this. Since is was running we just didn't do anything. Just today he took it to work and drove home and ran fine. When he got ready to go back to school (college student) it wouldn't start. Did the same thing...start up and shut off. His uncle thought it might be the fuel regulator, but said if he keeps turning it over it should start. Problem is when it starts for the short time it kicks out the starter so you can't continue to turn it over. Any suggestions on what it might be? Do you think it's the fuel pump? We did get it started once and it ran fine, but when turned it back off....wouldn't start again. Thanks for the help...he's a poor college student and not a lot of money to spend fixing the truck. Oh...it has about 140,000 on it. I don't know if the fuel pump has ever been replaced.
