Howdy! Brand new here today! I'm the proud owner of a 1997 C1500 Ext. Cab (4L60E, Vortec 350 eng.) 170,xxx miles. She is my first truck I have owned. The relationship has started out a bit rocky, though, and I have a lot of questions....

Bad TCC Valve (1870 code, now fixed) Thought I was rear ended the first time it shifted from 1-2 when it was hot!
No reverse lights (no voltage on light green wire in R, probably NSS)
Leaky steering return pressure line (what a mess underneath the truck!)
Bad pinion seal (seeps, leave spots on driveway)
Wonky High Mount Stop Lamp/Cargo Lights (fixed, dirty bulb sockets)
Jumpy oil pressure readings, (figure the sender is bad)
Burned out bulbs in A/C and cluster
Fuel sender issues (when fuel level at 1/4 tank or less, reading will fluctuate a LOT)
Slightly rough idle, detecting small miss also, but OBD is clean
Dash rattles, moans, groans (typical old truck stuff)

So here we are...nothing I can't fix, the truck is straight, and paint is excellent. Not a DD, so not pressed for time on fixes. The PO had a stack of receipts a mile long.

Any and all suggestions welcome, and I'll be happy to contribute as I go along!

Welcome Van70style! Sounds like you are already more mechanically inclined than I am so I'll stop at the welcoming part!

I got the truck cheap, the PO thought the transmission was bad. Once I pulled the code, I did some Internet searches and found a GM TSB on the issue. Ordered the TCC valve from Sonnax, and replaced the gaskets and orings. What a job! Had to be careful not to dislodge any of the numerous ball bearings in the valve body, and replaced the 2 big gaskets between the valve body and transmission, and it fixed my hard shift and sloppy TCC lockup/engagement. I cleared the SES light, and it hasn't come back yet, although I've only put about 400 miles on the truck since then. Keeping my fingers crossed. The truck sat for a long time in his backyard, he didn't want to spend the money to fix it, since he was told the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The valve kit was around $20.

Glad to be here! Does anybody know the approximate lifespan on the 350 with no major issue? Just curious.
