    Default Need help choosing header kits.

    Anyone out there done an exhaust manifold to header conversion? What parts will I need? What emission parts will be taken away or need to be substituted? Is there a kit out there for manifold to headers that includes everything? Any help on brands and websites will be really appreciated.

    I have a 1985 GMC suburban k1500 sierra classic with the small block 350

    With it being a 85 I'm not 100% but I doubt there was a whole lot of emission parts maybe the cat but you won't be taking that off unless you want to. Depends on where you live as to the laws. I would recommend long tube headers and if you have the right tools it could take you about 2-4 hours depending on how easy everything comes apart.     I was/am looking into installing a set of headers on my truck. A large portion of the info lead me towards Kook's headers. I know we have different engine's and all but that may be a brand to check into.

    Does your truck have the AIR system or any of the more complicated emissions bits that tie into the exhaust that was more common in the 80s?

    I love my American racing headers... Top quality product. Went on easily... No modifications and sounds awesome. Kind of pricey but you get what you pay for with many things...

    I had JBA ceramic coated headers on my 1995 silverado. They were nice and did not rust. From what I have read long tube headers will give you more power and better flow at low rpms, while shorty headers will give you more power and flow at high rpms. Any header you buy should come with gaskets. If you do long tube then you will need to have your exhaust redone to bolt up to it. Most the short tubes I have installed bolt right to the old stock exhaust with no issues. If you decide or need to replace the "donut" between the header and the exhaust, I suggest going into an exhaust shop with the old one in your hand. Generally they will sell you what you need really cheap or just give it to you. There is a shop right down the street from my parents, I have probably been in there 5 times for a donut for different vehicles. Every time it is a different employee. 2 times they just gave me the part and the other 3 they charged me like $5 for 2.

    Indeed it does, got the whole shebang. I hate this emmision control system bull.
