High pitched whine coming from engine
I have a 2005 Silverado extended cab 4x4 with 5.3 motor. It has a high pitched whining noise coming from under the hood when I accelerate. Sort of like an air leak but it's more noticeable when the engine is cold. Any ideas would be appreciated.

remove the accessory drive belt from the engine and start it up. noise gone? if not then remove the a/c belt from the engine. noise gone? this will tell you if its engine related or accessory related.
before you even do that, spray water on the belt while its running. JUST ENOUGH water to get on the belt. noise changes/goes away then try a new belt. while the belts off, check all the pullies for dirt, spin everything you can and listen for noise/roughness."i dont think you got the picture. i got a beautiful picture. this baby happens to have an extra turn of speed, which is the only thing i care about. you dont understnad what happens do you? they make cars. they make 'em exactly the same way. one or two of 'em turn out to be something special. nobody knows why. i know why. i may be kiddin' myself, but i think i can make somethin' out of that sad little bucket of bolts." ~ Tennessee Steinmetz
