I have seriously thought about removing the impact strips. I am finding that I like the plain look. I used to have a w/t that was pretty bare bones on the outside. I liked the look of it. I really want to lose the aluminum tailgate band too...

ive always been partial to the tailgate bands myself.

    something only chevys had.

the Silverado lettering on the newer style trucks might look good on the back.

If you think those are heavy just think if he would have hit a moose. But thankfully he didn't

You know... My body shop guy is convinced that he can make it shine like a mirror and clear over it. Even if it was chrome-shiny, it is big looking and doesn't really fit in with any of the other trim of the truck. Still, I agreed to let him do it and see what it looks like before I rip it off.

Ok... Here we are going to town on the paint job. Here are some pregress pics. here we are wet sanding the body out:

Wow! It looks really nice. Super deep gloss, wet look. I bet that it did not look that good they day it rolled of the assembly line.

Thanks, Pikey! It did turn out quite nice... We wet sanded the truck with 1000 grit paper, followed up with 3M "A" compound on a high speed buffer. That was followed by a polishing compound on the high speed buffer. Finally, a coat of Mother's synthetic wax applied with a random orbit polisher and hand buffed to the shine shown in the pics. I had no idea the truck looked like that under all the crud!

Yes. I would say that this is deeper and shines better than factory... This is the original 17 year old paint, by the way... (most of it... the drivers side of the bed has been repainted)

So, contrary to the title of this thread... I guess I really DON'T hate it at all. That deer got me the money to not only fix the damage, but to bring the whole truck to like new and a set of new tires to boot.
