    Default oil consumption/leaks 90 5.7 v8 c1500

this is my first c1500. what is the most likely oil consumption on these 5.7 motors. I dont seem to have many leaks. Very small and not many. I only notice a little smoke from the exhaust if i got on it hard from a stop and not much smoke when i first start it up. rings or valve guides or what?

I had a similar problem with the engine in my truck accept my situation was worse. 5.7 liter as well. Had about 300k on it. If I remember correctly a mechanic I talked to about it said that worn piston rings will cause smoke with a bluish tint while driving. On initial start up, worn valve guide seals are the culprit. My dad's van ('92 model about 200k miles on it) has blue smoke come out the back when he starts it up. The mechanic told me that it was normal for older Chevy engines to have a bit of blue smoke out the tail pipe on start up. Hope that helps.
