Ever since I bought my 2010 Chevy Traverse AWD, I've been fascinated with the full-time AWD system and how the computer controls where, when and how much power goes to each wheel.

I've borrowed this exploded Chevy Traverse Rear Suspension diagram and it seems to be to be a very well designed system, in fact I thought it would be a little beefier but I guess the engineers at GM made it solid and compact at the same time, which gives the vehicle additional ground clearance without lifting the center of gravity.

The AWD system in the Traverse runs at 100% Front Wheel Drive until the traction slips. Only at this point will the computer transfer power for rear wheel assist.
