    Default engine heater

    Hello from Finland!

I am planning to buy a defa engine heating system for the cold weather.

What kind of heating solutions you have bought for your trucks?

Defa makes a number of products but I'm guessing that you're looking at their frost plug heaters. Essentially similar heaters differing only in voltage and cord type are made for the U.S. market and widely used in the upper midwest where we have the same climate you do. They're the best product for the job.

I have one in my 1997 Silverado 2500. My Suburban didn't have one when I bought it and I haven't had a reason to install one yet, since it starts well in cold weather.

Years ago, I switched to synthetic oil to ease cold weather starting.
Regardless of the over night temps (and, we are expecting -27c tonight) the engine spins like a warm summer day.

The block heater will speed the interior becoming more comfortable for the driver, but synthetic oil will make the truck engine more comfortable (my 2 cents)
