I'm visiting home for the holidays, and my father started quizzing me on an issue he's having with his truck, a 2002 Silverado half ton extended cab with the 4.3L V6 engine. His check engine light is on, and autozone checked it and came back with only a P0341 (cam sensor) code.

Is the cam sensor itself likely to be the issue, or that the sensor is sensing another problem? Easy/cheap DIY checks and repairs?

I'm very mechanically handy, but mostly familiar with the Saturn S-Series and my '98 Suburban (5.7L 4wd).
