How much for a Suburban transmission rebuild?
I have a 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500 LT 4wd. The transmission doesnt work a bit. How much should it cost to have someone rebuild it. I live in Portland, OR.
I have someone who does rebuilds for $1500, which does not include taking it out and putting it back in. The transmission has 199000 milies on it. I like my Suburban and want keep it.

You have the 4L60e transmission. $1500 is in the ballpark for a rebuild. For that kind of money you should get a good warranty on it, 2-3 years or more. I'm ordinarily not a big fan of warranties but with a trans you have to find a shop that will stand behind their work because there is simply no way for you to know whether or not corners were cut. It's typically around $2000 to r&r a transmission if you pay someone to do it, by the time you pay for new fluid and whatever lines, switches, and connectors they end up having to replace.Minneapolis area - 1997 K2500 regular cab long bed + 8.5' Western Unimount plow + modified transmission + 2nd battery + modified camper charge circuit + 1971 Cayo camper -and- 2004 4x4 Suburban 2500 8.1 + Maxbrake controller + 2nd battery + modified trailer charge circuit + Reese receiver, pulls 30' Airstream trailer

I had my 4L60E rebuilt last year, it ended up costing a little more than that, with a warranty. They also used "heavier-duty" parts to build it. Best money I've ever spent, beats buying a new truck for sure.00 Chevy Tahoe LT, 5.3 4x4

I know my former employers 02 suburban, the tranny somewhat went out; drive wouldnt work and to get to 3rd you had to start at 1st then 2nd then finally to 3rd. But i think he said it was about 2 grand. but thats for what is in a 02 suburban.1994 GMC Yukon, 2 door, Victory Red
