Thread: fuel pump relay

    Default fuel pump relay

my 01 2500HD (6.0V8, 69k miles) has burned up 2 fuel pump relays in the last year. saab 9-5's use the same fuel pump relay, and my uncle (saab mechanic) says he sees them go out quite a bit, but hasnt ever seen 2 in a year. is it possible that my truck is having other issues (fuel pump going out?), or is it just a $10 relay acting like a $10 relay?

I think you might have bigger issues than just 2 faulty relays (which is quite uncommon). There may be a loose connection in your fuse block for your relay causing it to heat up and fail. Just a thought to check first, if your fuel pump is going and drawing to much current it can also make your relay fail but you would think it would blow a fuse first...Good Luck
