Thread: Light Bar Idea

  1. #31

    Default

Second round of pictures. Now up to two breadboards, have the printed circuit board, have the enclosure and have the connectors.

I relized I need to explain my photos. Below are the lay out of the proper IC that I will be using. The Trailer harnesses will be used to interface with the lights and functions. The project box will enclose the IC as well as the back up light relay and other components of new rear end electrical mods.

It is what it is.... Labor is not free, we can call it "sweat equity" if you want. Either you pay for it with your time, or you pay for someone elses time.

Or multiple people split their time and distribute the cost of the "time".

I might have missed it, but.... You did realize that the white LED strips will only be cycling between full on and full off, right? They will only come on when you are in reverse and won't need to be dimmed for any reason. This will cut down on the number of parts needed for the control of the white LEDs.

    My two cents.

Of course I realized that haha! The white ones will be attached the the back up light relay. I only tested the voltages to get a base line before I had the red ones and for future work if I make a LED dimmer with that type of strip.

Also there are 0 parts on the IC that interface with the white strips.

Checked in at The Shack and the 6v regulator still isn't in. The guy there emailed the supplier again and will try to call the for a third time monday. I know I can get one online, but you can't beat the personal service from the guys there they are the best. After I get the regulator in I will test the functions while hooked up to the truck. Then I will solder if everything works and install.

    UPDATE:

I realized I haven't at all updated this thread. I get a 6V regulator and the brightness is perfect! I have the whole circuit tested and on the bread board ready to be transferred, but being in college and with out my truck I stupidly didn't bring any of the parts of my light bar. Next time I'm home I'll bring them with me. I also decided to cut part of the bumper trim to make mounting the bar easier as well as mounting the bar parts to a flat piece of bar steel so mounting to the truck is simpler.

I have every part of the light bar ready minus the steel bar. Also I will be adding to flashing LED blocks to the bar the will go with a hazard flashing system I bought for the truck. 2 will be mounted in the back and 4 in the front.
