    Default after market vent solenoid

GM wants $180 for the fuel tank vent solenoid. Has any one found a cheaper after market part that has worked just as good?

What year are you looking for? I had to replace mine in my 2003 Escalade and it required a relocation kit if purchased through GM. I found the exact same looking part that went to a blazer/jimmy for $30 that just replaced the existing vent selonoid. It looked identicle to the original one I pulled off. When GM looks up the vent selonoid the old part number is superceded with the new relocation part number which is alot more money. Not sure if this helps but the parts guy at my stealership told me that if the plug will fit it and it looks similiar to your existing one and will mount in the same spot then it should work.

is the problem the venting solenoid or the vapor canister. could be both. if you fill up you tank then park the vehicle after driving a very short distance the liquid fuel causes venting issues. most JUMP on the vent solenoid. what usually occurs is the charcoal from the liquid fuel migrates into the vapor venting tubing/controls/vent valves with a black goo.

I would remove the large venting tubing and check for these issues first.

p0455 large leak in the evap fuel system. this can be rusted lines , broken plastic lines, a rust hole in the fuel filler near the top where the welds are to support the cap fixture.

it is possible the vent solenoid is stuck open , you can remove the component and see with some air pressure if it is open.

some use the smoke test when this is not quickly determined. injecting this smoke reveals the leak.

also check on the engine intake area for plastic lines disconnected/damaged/melted etc...
