Default Hit & run in BC

I just read somthing in the paper that made me sick. It seems that 3 young guys were on there way to the airport to fly to Hawaii for a vacation when another truck forced them into the ditch. Them while they were inspectiog the truck for damage the other truck came back and took a run at them hitting and killing one of them. The kid was 21! What the hell is wrong with people. A witness says that the 3 guys were passing the other truck when they were forced into the ditch so local police are theating this as road-rage.

Now my job takes me all around Calgary every day. We are a city of just a million people, but have a footprint the size of New York city( can you say urban sprawl!). We are one of the fast growing regions in north america. As a result, people are flocking here from everywhere in the world. They say that about 100 people a day move here. The city is bursting at the seams. Although the footprint is large, the roads getting to the different parts of town were not built to handle the traffic that they now must. So wahat happens. People get pissed!! I see it everyday and to tell the truth somedays I don't know how I don't go postal. I am from a town of about 2500 people in Newfoundland and moved to Alberta about 12 years ago. I remmeber putting my Dad's car in the ditch at 2:30 in the morning while delivering pizza when I was 17. No damage, just spun on some black ice. Knocked on the door of the closest house, another driver stoped to help and with a rope and a little push I was on my way. I bet anyone from a small town anywhere could relate a similar story.

So when I read about this hit and run that happend yesterday I can't understand what would make a person do such a thing. What happend to helping out other drivers. Sorry about the rant guys. Just needed to get this off my chest.

That is the craziest thing I've ever seen, Jason. No word I take it on catching the other truck?
We're going though the "Sprawl" thing here too, streets that used to be quiet are now a buzz with action. Our 401 hwy is in the southend of town and now that all the houses are being built in the northend every north bound street is a race track from 6am til 9am (residential streets). They all commute west to Toronto BTW.
On the weekend some of the stores that people are going to are lined up 3 streets back pulling into malls and Tim Hortons drive-thru's are insane..

BTW it's still quiet on the "Rock" last I heard LOL (My daughter went there last summer)

Good story Jason. Thanks for posting it.

I'd like to get a place out in the country with like 1-2 acres and a good internet connection and then drive into the office 2 days per week. (That might be an option) I can get a place for 3/5th the price if I got an additional 20 miles north of DFW and I'll enjoy the quality of life better too I think.

I've been broken down on the side of the road many times, even in rush hour and nobody ever stops. That usually means a long walk, as I don't have a phone yet. The other day I blew a head gasket on the highway and drove to work at 20 mph on the shoulder of the highway. The whole way there people were blaring their horns as if it would help my car move and I wasn't even in the way.
When we had a bad snow storm the other day, me and my bud helped out 4 cars from the snow.

I'm a firm beliver in the old saying "what goes around come around" I do believe that if you help someone, someone will help you. Mabey a bit old fashioned but what can I say. But if it is true, the guy driving that Ford is in for one hell of a time.

I always try and stop to help if someone is broke-down, has a flat or what-ever. I guess it is the small town mentallity and good-old-fashioned "do unto others" philosophy. I just hope that if the wife ever breaks down with the kids someone would "return the favour".
