Built myself a new computer.
I don't know if there are any other computer enthusiast on here but I figured i have to brag to someone so here goes. I built a new desktop tower for my use in my business and personal fun as well. This is something I have been planning to do for the past 3 years but my truck projects seemed to take all my time and money. Now I finely have the dream computer I have been wanting for a while. It is as follows:
Cooler Master CM Storm Trooper Full ATX case.
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard.
AMD FX 8350 Eight Core 4 GHz Processor.
2 OCZ Vertex 3 240 Gig SSDs ran in Raid 0
OCZ ZX Series 1250 watt 80+ Gold certified Power Supply
Sound Blaster Recon 3D Fatal1ty Sound card
XFX R7870 with 2 Gig DDR 5 Video Card
Western Digital 1 TB Black series Storage Drive
Thermaltake Water 2.0 Water cooling
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Below are some test I have run so far and it is looking good.
Window's Experience Index Score: 7.9 is the highest you can get.

I like it, but its a little slow for me
My current desktop (the important parts):
- Intel Q6600
- Asus Striker Extreme
- 8GB DDR2
- 2x ATI 4870's 2gb DDR3 each
- USB 3.0 add on card
- Dual Gigabit ethernet
- 3x Dell 2408WPF 24inch LCD monitors
(Keep in mind, I built that system back in 2006)
6 months ago I decided I needed a laptop for Photoshop, Video editing, etc that I can take on the road and be able to run SQL server, so the laptop I have had since January is:
- Alienware M17xR4
- QM3840 8mb cache
- 32gb DDR3 1600mhz
- 2x WD 500gb 7200rpm in Raid 0
- 4 USB 3.0 ports
- Blu Ray Rom
- 2x external Pioneer BRXL 128gb blu ray burners in Nexus USB 3.0 enclosures
I am pricing a new tower right now which will consist of:
- Asus dual socket 2011 motherboard
- 2 intel hex core processors with hyperthreading (12 physical cores, 24 cores total)
- 96gb DDR3
- 2x AMD 7990's
- I am going to use my existing case, PSU and hard drives

Yikes! That's quite a rig Don.
I have been building my own computers (for gaming) since 2000. For a while there I was building a new one every year. I finally slowed down and my current rig is about 3 years old but I haven't felt the need to upgrade.

Nice Don! I just bought an older laptop so I could use it for storm chasing. Just finished setting up Ubuntu. I set it up for dual boot since I kept XP professional on there. I'll probably have to boot into XP when I storm chase because I don't think I can get the radar software I want to use to boot on anything other than Windows.93 Suburban (Southern Slayer): TBI 350, 4L60E

Very nice build you've got there! I'm not a big fan of the case, but it's whats on the inside that matters!
I plan to build a nice desktop once I get some expendable money. I also can't justify a desktop right now with the way my laptop runs.

Currently I'm using Windows XP laptop from 2007.
Intel core 2 duo 1.66GHz
3GB DDR2 ram
and a blu-ray dvd burner built in (one of the first out there)
I want to build a good desktop in my old case that has:
6 80mm fan mounts (4 front, 2 Rear)
5 3.5in HDD bays
4 CD-ROM bays
2 3.5in open bay (used to be floppy)
room for a standerd 12x9.5 board
7 open expansion slots.
can fit any normal power supply.
I really just don't know what to get to make a good computer.

I don't really need all that much power anymore, most of everything that I do is based off website type of work and maybe I need to run some of the Adobe CS stuff (no video rendering) now and again.
