Default Explosion at Waco Texas (West) Fertilizer Plant - Multiple Injuries, School Fire

I heard this explosion tonight in the city of Mansfield, Texas which is about 60 miles away from the explosion!
I was leaving the Target in Mansfield and it started to rain I thought I heard some loud thunder, but I didn't think the storm had any lightning so it surprised me a bit.

I've got a friend in Waxahachie, Texas who thought there was an earthquake. Turns out it was a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in the city of West, just outside of Waco, Texas.

How big does a blast have to be for it to be felt 50 miles away as if it were an earthquake and for me to think it was a lightning/thunder crash in Mansfield?

This is a truck website and we have a lot of members down in central Texas, anyone on here now have any further information? Starting to see the news scanner sites pick up the story, it should make the news pretty soon I would think.

I've got family down in West, can't get through to them. We're being told not to head down there, might try though and go in the back roads. Not sure how close I can get though.

I actually just got a call. Family is ok, they said it was like a WMD went. Casualties have been taken to the football field for triage.

If a truck bomb from a nut job could take down a 10 story building in Oklahoma City, how big was the blast from a whole factory? Makes me shudder for what morning daylight is going to show.

We took a trip to San Antonio for spring break a couple of weeks ago and we stopped in the city of West to get gasoline and that city is know for kolaches (sp?) and other pastries. It's a nice little town, my wife's grandparents lived there when they first got married in the 50's, I just to joke that they lived in west Texas, and he was like, yup we moved to West, Texas.

They're reporting right now that there are at least 60 dead from the blast. And hundreds are injured. This is horrible, makes me sick.

I'm holding my breath that the death-toll will drop from that panic and confusion that was last night. This will be bitter-sweet news if they can confirm and announce that there are less fatalities than that horrible number talked about last night of 60-70.

We do know that there were some firefighters who were killed last night. That's very sad as these are guys who were much braver than me who were rushing in to stop the fire so that this would not happen. They tried their hardest I'm sure and they paid the ultimate price for being protectors of their town. Maybe they were able to hold off the fire long enough so that more people could escape harms way before the blast occurred.

Wow, this is insane. Praying for the people who are affected by this. Hope to God this was just a tragic accident and not a deliberate act.

I got a chance today to see first hand some of the devastation we made deliveries of badly needed medical equipment to a couple of hospitals not far from the area.
Texas DPS escorted us on a bypass near some of the affected areas they were pretty serious about not allowing pictures but what we could see was easily as bad as areas I saw in Iraq after they were bombed.
