The Eaton G80 is one of the reasons I bought my new 2008 Sierra with 2WD. My 1996 Silverado (for sale!) was a 1-wheel drive!

The other reason for 2WD was MPGs ! ! !

Look in the glove box, and there will be a sticker with an alpha roster of codes, if you have the locker it will be listed as G80, and the next G code will be your gear size.
    -G80=locking rear differential
    -GU2=2.73
    -GU4=3.08
    -GU6=3.42
    -GT4=3.73
    -GQ1=3.73
    -GT5=4.10

No wonder my truck is so gutless off the line, its got 3.42's, hmmm... Might have to look into puttin in some 3.73's. Butt I guess that will hose my MPG on the freeway. Oh how I wish my truck had a 5 or 6 speed in it....

g80 is good in s stock truck but it's not the best out there. tundra has elocker's optional from the factory. I don't think they are standard. I keep my g80 as long as it holds up but I put a elocker in the front diff. can't beat a true 4x4.

    Default Locking Rear

The sticker indicates that i too have a locking diff but the glovebox code indicated GT4 =3.73 gearing...No G80 code, so there must be another axle for 1/2 tons only...maybe ?

Is the g80 for 3/4 or 1 ton trucks only ?

My 03 2WD Silverado has the locking diff.
It's not 4WD but it is avery good alternative. When hauling a load in the bed the locker performs well. As long as you use common sense you wont get stuck.

Nope... my 2006 1/2 ton Silverado has a G80 locker. It really makes a "diff" on the snow and ice here in Alaska! Pun intended!

If the locker was added after it left the factory, maybe it doesn't show up in the RPO codes. I'm not sure if they put the RPO code sticker together at the point of sale or the point of production. Is it possible the locker was added after the fact? If so, the only way to know for sure what's installed in the diff would be to open the diff up and look.
