Default PRO or DIY? Truck & SUV Detailing, do it yourself or hire someone?

I'm just back from vacation right now and my 2010 Chevy Traverse is FILTHY! It's dirty on the front-end, the entire body is filthy, the windows inside and out have fingerprints and what-not on them, and the interior ... well, we had a child get sick for a couple of days and his puke-bucket ended up having a hole it in and we also have all sorts of junk spilled all over inside this thing from going over 1,800 miles in 11 days.

So, should I fork over probably over $100 to go to a full-service car wash and have the works applied to the interior and exterior, including shampooing the seats and carpets ... or should I do it myself and maybe spend 5 hours of my time doing this?

What do you do? Do you hire it out, or do you do-it-yourself? What would you do in my situation?

    BEFORE PHOTOS
These are some pics I just snapped of my Traverse before I've taken a single step in getting her cleaned up. Not terrible, but there's sand, food crumbs and the stench of vomit inside of the car.

That depends if you are feeling up to the task. IMO, if it's as FILTHY as you say, 5 hours is a really low estimate.

Like a lot of things in life, if you want it done right then do it yourself. I prefer to wash/detail my own vehicle. That way, it's done exactly how I want it done and if it isn't right, I have only myself to blame and not some "pro" that I paid a ton of money and didn't get everything I was expecting.

Hey @Steve, where are the photos of the filthy Traverse you were in the process of uploading?

Added them to the OP in this thread, sorry it took me much longer to get done than I had anticipated.

That does not look that bad, running it through the car wash and a good vacuuming will make it look a lot better.

As far as getting the vomit stench out, shampooing will be needed.

Do you have the Weathertech floor liners for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rows?

ID:	53913Demon Louisiana insects from hell!!!!!

I went to a decent drive through car wash, I've gone here for a couple of years, I got their deluxe $15 car wash, and these demon Louisiana insects from hell just won't come off!

I decided to not even bother mentioning it to the people running the car wash, they look tired at the end of the day and I didn't want to be a hassle for them. So I drove to my old standby, an old fashion spray nozzle and foam brush car wash. Spent five bucks gave me 11 minutes and I maybe got half of the bugs from hell off of the front grill, facia, and mirrors.

I guess I'm going to have to get some bug and tar remover at the local auto parts store, get me a bucket and some sponges and maybe some steel wool!

Let me see if I can get Some photos uploaded here .Click image for larger version.

im now into this about 2 and a half hours and $20 !

    - - - Updated - - -

I picked up some rainx bug and tar pre-wash gel. Going to spray those louisanna bugs off this Texas treasure.

I sprayed it all down with the rain x bug and tar remover and went though another car wash ... Then scrubbed it with a sponge when done. I got maybe 90% of it off.

You can also use clay bar to remove those contaminants from the paint.

We took a short three-day trip to San Antonio to finish out the summer and the front-end is BUG FREE! However, the interior is all in need of a deep cleaning again.

I'm about to order some all-weather floormats.

The Weathertech mats for the Traverse/Acadia are real nice. The 2nd and 3rd row mats are real nice.
