Between me and my dad, we have had 7 Suburbans. He got the first one, a 78, in 80. After that we were hooked. My 99 is actually the first one in my name, but I drove his 89 as a daily driver before I got mine 2 1/2 years ago. He is driving an 05 Denali XL at this time.

I bought my Suburban 1998 2wd 1/2 ton 195,300 miles-a year ago,and it has given good service to 202,400 miles.Just took it on a 3300 mile trip from New Orleans -Flagstaff-New Orleans.I was much more comfortable than the Tacoma,Tundra,Pilot,Titan we have taken on the same trip before. Most surprising, it got much 21.3 mpg at 70 mph-cc on the whole time.I paid $2959 for it-bought it because I was am short of $$,and had to sell the Pilot($15,500-$2950=$12550 in my pocket), but we still needed something big to evacuate or travel.

Obviously,I'm happy. So happy I would love to get a 2004 and see what sort of mpg it would get-mine rated 12/17 the 2004 14/18.They-2004-are down to $12950 with just 65000 miles on Ebay.Unfortunately,I'm still broke,so that is a dream. I get about 14 mpg using some Hypermiling techniques-in pure city driviing-mixed city 16+.You can get mpg help at cleanmpg.com nice folks-some a bit preachy but pretty nice. Some talk of FSP(fuel sucking pigs)-our 1/2 tons, but I ignore it, it is money out of my pocket,so I use the techniques to get better mpg.

Anyone out there want to pay $3500 for a good shape-recent trans rebuilt,AC rebuilt, alternator, radiator, water pump, belt tensioner all replaced.rebuilt recently?? If I could get $3500 I would sure try to get a 2002-some as little as $7500-.Won't happen-

Happy guy.You couldn't get a better road trip vehicle, or evac vehicle-we have 3 adults, 1-2 leggy greyhounds and 4 cats-we need the size when hurricanes come.

Seems to be happening a lot lately...every car lot around here has 2 or 3 on it...some have more. I guess now is the time to get one since it ought to be pretty cheap!

I am on my 1st...a '97 K1500. It's fun, but I got it used and am finding out how well the previous owner took care of it. The transmission is starting to shift funny when it gets warmed up...guess I will need a rebuild soon. I also lost my AC recently...and the summer is getting damn hot! I am glad it has a lot of glass to let a lot of air flow thru!
