i bought the LT 4wd model about 3,4 weeks ago. rides nice, but there are some things i wish GM didn't change about the suburban. for starters i really wanted a barn door set up, and now you can't just slide the middle seat to acess the 3rd row. you have to fold and lift up on the seats.
PLASTIC bumpers sucks, i'm affraid i will rip them off the truck once i hit a trail here and there.
the fabric they used on the cloth seats is very hard to clean. lint sticks to it like glue. (i hate leather so no leather seats for me)
rear climate controls, your choice is either mimic t he front or control it from the rear. so when someone is in the back and don't know how to use the controls, you haveto explain it to them, rather than just adjust it from the front. (there is no longer a seperate controls for the rear up front).
ohh and i wish they made diesel and or 6sp tranny available on the burbs. as of now no diesel and 6spd only available on denali and escalade models.
and i couldn't find any 3/4 ton model. but thats ok.
all in all i'm happy with the the new models. i didn't like the 2000-2006 models (shape wise). reason why i held on to the 94k1500. but that was getting old and i like the new shape. better milage is a plus but still a gas hog.
steering and suspension feels much better. i'm glad they didn't go independent rear susp. like ford did. but have a funny feeling they will on the next body re-design.

might i add, i looked at the Z71 option too, and i was disapointed. most of the upgrades it had was looks. as far as off road, it isn't much better. not like the old Z71 off road package.

The market for the Suburban changed dramatically over the past generataion. It used to be designed for all-purpose audience with some contractors buying them, some familes, some businesses, etc. Now it's going away from the contractor market, they're buying trucks. The people who buy then typically want a specific package ... so they went less heavy-duty for stuff like off-road capabilities, etc. Plus, the plastic bumpers are designed (even if just a little) to improve fuel efficiency ... it's a trade-off for a company that has been mandated with some crazy MPG targets to hit in the next 10 years.
