So I had a brain storm and got to thinking about my intake and was thinking about doing a corvette style intake in my truck, kinda like a ram air intake type thing. A pipe from the throttle body straight forward to above the radiator and cutting into the plastic piece and putting the corvette air box there and was wondering if it would work, any thoughts on it?

It should "ram" the air in, I would think. Don't know for sure the down sides though.

Hey man, if you want to do a Corvette style intake I have an LS6 intake and fuel rails I'll sell ya. I would do the Volant CAI with the ram air tube. You can find directions for the installation on here I am sure, if not just look at the front page of LS1Truch

i would think that there wouldnt be a whole lot of air flow in that area for that intake, i would make a custom one and get piping done at an exhaust shop so the air filter is completely out of the engine bay, unless you flipped upside down and drew there air in through the hood and a scoop

The whole reason why I got to thinking about it was the truck that was on the cover of Truckin' with the double dualie, it had a custom intake with a triple cone intake on top on the engine and was thinking that if moving the intake to the front of the engine bay infront of the radiator would work but I dont know how well or if at all. You think it would due to the fact that as you drive air goes in thru the grill so it should go into a intake on the top of it, but its all just a theory I had, and it kinda makes sense. Ya think it would and the air should be colder coming in thru there then where the intake sits now, but another thing I just thought of was what about water getting in there I guess you would need something to prevent the water from going into the engine. Just a few thoughts I had floating around in my head, dont know if any of it makes sense to anyone.

I think that if I put the filter behind the radiator and had a custom built box for the filter going around it and going to right above the radiator it would function as a ram air.

Remember your thermodynamics, you want the coldest air possible, so avoid any air pre-warmed by the radiator. Truck and Vette intakes differ considerably: trucks usually get their air front-on thru the "grill", the air goes thru the radiator and other ports in the front bulkhead. Vettes get their air from well below the nose taking advantage of the air masses at the front spoiler(s). What works on a Vette may not on a truck.
An old school method for cool intake air is to take advantage of the pressure area at the base of the windhield. The 427 "L-88" Vette hood is a well known rear entry (cowl induction) hood scoop. Creating a similar "second story" air chamber is a straight forward addition to almost any hood. The L-88 style and other cowl induction hoods have always had a serious performance look and can be altered to fit most inductions.
Are we having fun, yet?
I see what your saying so what about adding an aftermarket scoop and cutting a hole under it, making a sealed box for under it and putting the intake there.

Back in the day, that's exactly what I did to my '70 454 'Vette. The stock intake was a "low rise" and when I went to an after market intake and carb I needed additional height. The L-88 style blister over the OE "big block" dome worked perfectly, the air cleaner was totally within the cool air box. Of course, this was a SoCal car and not a truck subject to winter's snow.

So then my idea woud work?
