    Smile Replacing Idler Pulley

I am going to replace my Idler Pulley this weekend to hopefully get rid of my engine whine. Can any one tell me what things I need to look out for. It looks pretty simple and those are the things that usually reach out and bite me.

    Thanks

It shouldn't be a big deal... the most effort required will be to take the tension out of the system by un-looping the drive belt (see your owners manual). Check the rotation of the pulley, there's a good chance the bolt will have a left-handed thread. Of course, when you remove the pulley bolts, keep all of the bearing shields, washers, spacers, etc. in proper order and segregated the ones for the idler from the ones from the tensioner.

Are your pulleys bad, or just the pulley bearings? In some fitments, replacing the bearing may be an option. It worked for me, my old Burb has metal idler and tensioner pulleys. Using a bench vice (or large C-clamp) and the appropriately sized sockets as a press, remove the old bearings and take them to your local parts house for a correct replacement (I had to wait a day for a special order). Press in the new bearings, reinstall the pulleys and re-mount the drive belt. Now, smile because you just saved some $$$ with little effort.
    Are we having fun, yet?
