After a K&N FIPK kit and a bored throttle body, which would give me better performance; a cat-back exhaust or new headers? (I already have a Flowmaster muffler)
I'm not concerned about gas mileage, only making my truck more powerful and faster because it's only a V6. With a $2000 budget (excluding installation), what modifications can be done to REALLY provide power to gas trucks?

Even though you have a v-6 you will always get performance from allowing the engine to "Breath Better" I would say go ahead and get yourself a set of headers and a high flow cat and use a 2 1/2" to 3" two into one at the cat and the same the rest of the way as well. The other mods I suggest are a Custom Tune check out www.nelsonperformance.com for $375 they can get you more HP and gas mileage to boot. You can send them your pcm when they send your "tuned" one or just keep it for an extra charge. You will also get free retunes for life. A set of e-fans "electric" will remove drag from your motor and an underdreive crank pulley will help as well. Finally, if you are sure you don't care about fuel econ look into upgrading your rear end gearing something like 4.10 or 4.56 with a good locking differential. I am sure this will eat up your budget, but what the heck.........lets go fast!!!!!![]()

No doublt you should go with headers, high flow catbacks will bost the outcome of headers also.
Actually I doublt that anyone will dissagree with GoFastPadre advise, 100% the easyest and most outcome easy bolt-on's.
For my truck, I am planning on headers since the borla cats didn't gave me that much, pulleys arived and will be installed, programming done but needs enhancments.

I talked to my dad and asked if a cat back would benefit me. He said no. But he says no to a lot of things. I already have a muffler, and thought it would be ok to leave the stock pipes because of it. I can spend money on headers OR cat back. Which is more beneficial?
PS> I already have a K&N CAI and a larger throttle body on order.

Would a custom performance tune work well with a CAI and a Flowmaster exhaust or do I also need a cat back exhaust first?

I would say headers will give you better results. The performance Tune will work with any configuration, but with the addition of mods you will need a retune. I would go ahead and get the tune after the CAI and TB and then you can decide what else you want to do. You will be pleased with the results even with no mods. I also think your dad is giving you sound advise. He has your best interest in mind and it is real easy to get in over your head.![]()

OK GoFastPadre, your words of wisdom have expanded my knowledge. On behalf of your advice, I will invest in new headers.
30 years from now, will the stock exhaust pipes have to be removed; due to deterration or rust or something?
