Default 1995 power mirrors stopped working.

Both mirrors only go down, not up, left, or right. #3 fuse in fuse box is ok. They just stopped working. Is just being able to go down some type of default when say the switch fails?
Clymer and Chiltons repair manuals are useless.

    TIA

It is probably the switch. That is usually what happens when it fails. Not that they only move down, but that they only move in certain directions when it goes bad.

The one thing common is the switch, common to both mirrors and common to the way the problem displays it's self. Money on the switch

Thanks Pikey and RayVoy for the advice. I took the switch apart and although the contacts and circuit board look ok [no heat damage from a short] it smells like it got cooked. Didn't pop the #3 fuse for it in the interior driver's side fuse block either.

I put the new switch in and it fried almost immediately. This all started with a new left-hand mirror. The original switch, I tried both mirrors and they worked fine in all directions. Put the door back together and it only worked down only, both mirrors.

Chilton and Clymer repair manuals do not have the wiring schematic for the power mirror. I dunno, maybe the new mirror is bad but I don't know how to test it without the schematic for it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I ordered another switch but I need to find the short before I plug it in.
