    A few updates:

Engine block bacl from the machine shop, the ring scuff in cyl # 5 from the exploded piston completely turned out.

the rotating assembly is back from the balancer

Stabing in the LT4 Hot Cam

Installing the roller rockers, retainers & cage

Vortec 357ci Small Block Chevy: Big cam, high stall, long headers, rear gears. The typical formula.

laying in the crank, and torqued the main caps

tapped in the H345NCP-40 pistons & zz4 forged rods. After torqueing the rod caps I put a dial indicator on the pistons @ TDC. I found that they sit .004" in the hole, with a .041" head gasket ( when compressed) it gives an ideal .045" quench distance.

installed the cam retaining plate and geardrive

The 3000 stall torque converter arrived

The tall polished aluminum valve covers arrived as well, although I don't have the heads back yet.

Here's a trick with ball milled or any valve covers with a recessed design

    Plain covers...

Spray paint the top of the covers

Than take a few brakleen soaked shop rags and wipe off the paint from the covers. It leaves the recesed portions still painted

Buttoned up the short block. The heads will return tomorrow so I can get started on the port work & polish job.

Managed to get the geardrive and CKPS reluctor wheel to tuck behind the Vortec timing cover. I had re-inforced the cover with a piece of tin.

    Thanks everyone

The heads came back today. Of course the first thing I did was paint them.

A mock up of the engine in full dress

I'm happy with my choice of valve covers, they look good with the F.I.

The Comp Hi-Tech pushrods also arrived today. Those were the missing piece of the puzzle, the next big purchase will be the fuel injectors...soming soon

    Cheers ~Mykk
