    Default Acetone in gas

Has anyone been successful with adding acetone to their fuel? My 89 Cherokee 4.0L with a 5 speed went from 16-18 mpg empty around home to averaging 22 mpg loaded down with about 4 to 500 lbs of stuff going from Seattle WA to Tuscon AZ, and back last summer. NO JOKE!!!.Couldn't believe it at first, thought my math was wrong. Haven't been real adamant with my Suburban, because I have a fuel issue I'm working on. But, my Jeep with 300,000+ miles on it after adding 4oz of acetone to every tank (20 gal), worked like magic. I went from just over 20 to just over 24 mpg. All the websites I looked at say 1 to 3oz for every 10 gallons. I need to figure out the problem with my 'burb and then I'll be experimenting with that.

    Question

I personally have not tried it, but I have read of some folks using it in their motor homes to get better mileage. How much is Acetone running these days?

Never heard of it before this post. I found stuff on the web about it though.

Maybe they discuss it, but my question is why is it not added in gasoline from the pump or sold in small plastic jugs called "MPG booster" or something like that.

Saw something about this on another site that said the acetone would cause softer rubber components (seals, o-rings, etc.) to dry out and rot over time.

Use of Acetone in a fuel system will eat the "O"rings on the fuel injectors and any other rubber or plastic pieces in the fuel system (parts of your fuel pump are made of plastic). Talk to you local mechanic before you try this.
