I just recently got my 98 C1500 its a 5.7 vortec with 95000 miles on it. The guy I bought it from took great care of it and while I was going through all the service records I saw he had a new fuel pump assembly put in around 15000 miles ago. The concern is the pump is louder than the engine, is this normal or should I maybe replace the strainer. Truck has power o' plenty and doesn't hesitate when starting.

That's strange I've never heard that before I almost wanna say its an aftermarket POS. Maybe try a GM one. Mine is quiet as a mouse!
Good luck with it though![]()

my 99 has a loud fuel pump like that. I just tell people it's a transformer. My friends dad had a 99 suburban that did the same thing he took out the pump and cleaned everything, put it back in and it still made the noise.![]()

I have replaced mine twice. The first one I installed was louder than the original, but the second one was quiet. They both came with strainers, so that shouldn't be your problem. I think it's just the luck of the draw. Unless you have a few C-notes your not using, I wouldn't replace it until it quits (unless the noise bothers you that bad).

I've installed three different fuel pumps on two different vehicles. The first pump I bought came from Autozone. It was kind of loud but worked fine. The second pump I bought from ORieily's. It was the cheaper pump they sale (don't remember the brand). It was quiet but died after 3 months. I exchanged it for the third pump and went with the Delphi brand from OReily's. It's quiet and has worked great so far.
Like someone posted earlier, I believe those fuel pumps are a crap shoot. I'd hate to replace the fuel pump only to find the replacement every bit as loud. Changing the fuel pump out is just not worth it.
