Sure, it's possible -- almost anything is possible. Is it practical?... probably not.
If you must, start at the junk yard, and get some bottom dollar partial late model wrecked fenders. Only the sheet metal around the lights needs to be OK. After plenty of pondering and planning, blend the new light buckets into your existing fenders. After you finish all the welding, grinding and filling, re-paint your fenders. Next, modify your wiring as may be required, and install the new lights.
Don't forget to take plenty of pictures and take copious notes. Then you can do a and article for the Technical How-To forum. If it turns out that it's way less complicated than I'm guessing, then you'll be a hero. Lot's of members will be making the change emulating your truly custom tail lights.
There are a lot of replacement tail lights available for your truck, and they'll be much easier to install. If you really want the newer ones, I just saw a late model taillight on eBay for around $5. If you got it, then you could compare and determine the actual differences.
Are we having fun, yet?
