Got my third speeding ticket in 6 months with my new truck. Don't know what the problem is, just don't ever feel like I am going as fast as I am. Guess I am looking for tips, recommendations on radar/laser detection or anything that might help. This last ticket has me royally pissed too. I am cruising along in RH lane, and vehicles in middle and left hand lanes are passing me - cop pulls me over from a side street and says I was going 49 in a 40. I saw him 1 block ahead and looked at the speedometer - it was just past the 45 tic. When he pulled out behind me I seriously thought he clocked one of the cars in the other two lanes. Does anyone know the accuracy of the laser - is there any chance he clocked one of the others, and since I was in the closest lane pinned it on me? If so, do I have any way to prove my case? I am seriously considering fighting this one if I have a reasonable defense.
Any tips are welcome

That's my story from Feb as well, cop got a differnt vehicle and not mine.
There is a ton of information out and the laws vary state by state. Laser is pretty much accepted to be accurate in more places I think.

That happened to my great uncle a while back. The cop gave him a ticket when it was someone else that was speeding. He fought it in court and won, but he had a pretty strong defense. He had never gotten a speeding ticket in his life and at the time I think he was in his 60's. Most of us can't argue that point, so I suggest doing some research like Steve said. Good luck!

Man, that sucks. I know I'd be pissed! Do you have anything done to your truck that might attract the cops? I know when I used to drive a sports car, every single cop that drove by would get a good look at the car. Like they were just looking for a reason to pull me over. And they did more than once. :(
Otherwise, I'd just try to slow it down and get a good radar detector. V1/Bel/Escort make the best stuff out there. They're not cheap, but it'll work.
As for the ticket, definately try to fight it. You've really got nothing to lose. Best case, it'll get thrown out if the cop doesn't show up. Worse case, you lose some time and have to pay anyways.

Well...I hate to tell you this but lasers are extremely accurate because they are target specific. You use a radar just like a pistol- aim and shoot.
If you were checked by Doppler radar then there may be a chance the officer checked another vehicles speed and mistook it for yours. A radar beam is approximately 300' wide at thousand feet where a laser beam is only about 3' at the same distance.
Unless the officer shoots like Barney Fife then there might be something else there. Another thing is that it is human nature to ease up on the gas when we see a police car/motorcycle...even if we aren't speeding. Maybe that would explain the 4 mph difference.![]()
