Thread: idles wide open

    Default idles wide open

On my 1994 4 cylinder S10 pickup it backfired thru the top end yesterday and when it starts it runs wide open and won't idle down. Any idea what I should look for? I couldn't see anything wrong looking under the hood. The butterfly is in closed position and works with the throttle cable ok. Thanks for any input you can give me.

I think you blew a gasket somewhere

    Likely an intake gasket.

take some carb cleaner and spray it (with the tube) at different areas around the intake. if the idle changes you have a leak. you can pinpoint it with the carb cleaner. it is either a vaccumm hose or an intake gasket.
