Default '04 Silverado LS Odometer Error Message

I have been receiving an odometer error message for quite some time now and I was looking for suggestions on where to look for a replacement digital cluster. Anyone know whether I will be able to retrieve the miles off the old one? It is for a 2004 Silverado LS EXT Cab 5.3L. Thanks

gaugeguys.com - They're local for me and have a great reputation. They will rebuild your existing cluster. I believe miles are actually in the pcm so changing the cluster won't affect them.

have the dash cluster repair people set the correct mileage. you want the PCM and the dash cluster to be the same !

Only the cluster keeps the mileage PCM & BCM do not.

I have been told the PCM records the mileage as well as the dash cluster. if they check this and find the mileage is different then this is under federal laws about mileage tampering.

with your info on this being stored in the BCM and dash cluster GM made this change back in 2003.

In my 2000 it is in the PCM and dash cluster ,, from my reading of this. what ever the case it is stored in 2 different places.

.....On the GM FullSize Trucks, the IPC Stores the Mileage, the BCM will"Keep Record"of the Current Mileage, and
    the BCM reads the IPC.

The BCM Updates itself. if your Cluster has 128K miles....The BCM sees 128K miles.

Plug in a Cluster with 52K miles, Fire it up, and Drive around, and the BCM now reads....52K miles.
