New guy here, so hey to everyone.
Here is my question. I am picking up 2007 2500HD with the HD trailering equipment. I want to install a brake controller and was wondering if the factory one could be installed after the fact. That is is the wiring already in place so it will be a plug and play situation or will installing an aftermarket be the better route.
Thanks

It would help to know if your 2500HD is a 2007 Classic body style, or a 2007.5 New body style.

Sorry about that, it is the new body style. 2007 silverado LTZ 2500HD Crew Cab standard box

On a couple of diesel forums i belong to it seems more people than not are wanting to disable the factory integrated brake controller and switch to a more reliable aftermarket controller that works better and has less headaches. The two favorite controllers are the Prodigy P3. and the MaxBrake controller. I have a Podigy in my truck and it was very simple to install and when purchased with a harness for your specific truck, it's just plug and play.

Great, that's what i was looking for wether or not the factory one was worth it or not. Factory would have integrated into the dash nice, but perfomance is more important than looks on this topic

it only took me 15 mins to hook up mine in my NBS silverado. all the wiring is taped up behind the bottom dash panel. then there is two wires under the hood that u have to hook to the post in the fuze box. there is a video out there that shows exactly what to put where and all. i just did a search for "silverado brake controller" hope this helps
