    Default Brake Warning light on

    My dash light for the brakes popped on, the ABS light is not. I checked the fluid and it was low as I figured, the last time I did brakes I just had the rotors turned and put on new pads, so I know it needs a full break job now. I topped off the brake fluid and the pedal still goes to the floor to try and stop this thing. The light did not shut off either. Is there some kind of wear sensor that I don't know about??

    Sounds like you may have had the fluid go too low and allowed air into the system. Bleeding the system should be done. See what happens after you do that. Keep an eye on the fluid as you bleed each wheel so air doesn't get in and defeat the process. HTH.

    Sounds more like you have a brake fluid leak someplace. The rear wheel cylinders would be my first suspect.

    x2 on that. Brake fluid does not just disappear from the system. If it was low enough for the light to come on, it is coming out somewhere. I would fill it back up and have someone press the pedal a few times while you look under the truck. (I would wear safety glasses, a pin hole in a line can shoot fluid out with some pretty high pressure) The lines that run along the frame rail are know to rust out. If you see no obvious drips anywhere then check the wheel cylinders in the rear and the front calipers. If nothing there then check the master cylinder where it mounts to the booster. Finally check inside the cab, under the dash where the rod from your brake pedal goes thru the firewall. Sometimes a leaking master will leak into the booster and out thru the rod hole.

    well after it sat all night with the fluid topped off the light finally went out and the sponginess is still there. yes I know its a chevy and that's typical but its still more then normal. it goes in tomorrow morning to have everything checked out. -20 right now, and I don't have a garage big enough for my beast to fit in.
