    Default RUFF RIDE!!!!!! help!!!!!

    454 r20 subururban........need the smoothest ride possible......its a gas guzzlein party truck.....I TOW NOTHING! NEVER GONNA TOW ANYTHING!!!!! So please no comments about losing towing capacity or cuttin the nuts off a 3/4 ton monster....... i get it. It rides oem rough. I need ideas to smooth it out to station wagon ride if possible. Any ideas will be looked into. thanks in advance!
    hey buddy.....if I was worried about gas mileage Id have you tuning up my ten speed....shut up and change the plugs please.

    Only idea I have is let some air out of the tires.

    You probably could cut the leaf springs down in the rear some also.

    Remove the front coils and use replacement bags.
    On the back pull 2 of the leafs from the center of the pack and the overload spring.
    Then add bags to the rear.
    Add a VIA air 650 pump and a 2 or 3 gl air tank, since you dont mention wanting to lowride you wont need dump valve and can route lines to individual regulators for front and rear that you can mount in a center consol or under the dash.
    With this method you can adjust ride comfort for the amount of people in the truck.

    Nice set of shocks will make a big difference... since I upgraded my shocks my 2500 rides smoother than my girlfriends van.

    Changing out torsion bars and removing spring leaves, new shocks and bagging it will do it, but you might want to down-grade the tires.

    Your a 3/4 ton, so the wheels and the tires are more than you need. You can't do anything about the wheels unless you change the hubs, but tires with thinner sidewalls will make a huge difference and, as @the phantom suggested, lower the air pressure.

    I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado, and I'm about done on a full restoration and one thing that made a HUGE difference was 1. New coils up front as rated on my door sticker, 2. replaced all the shocks with Monroe "Sensi-Trac" shocks and a full set of new B.F. Goodrich radials. 3. replace any 'Polyurethane' bushings you ever or might have install when you bought it or maybe the guys you bought it from. Polyurethane gives you a hideous ride. Please don't ask how I know. Other than that, (which is the cheapest route to go) but as TBplus10 noted, air ride ain't cheap but it works pretty nice ?

    It's a 3/4 ton so it has floating axles in the back and you can't step down to 1/2 springs. But a New set would give better ride.
