Yesterday I installed a stereo in my '99. Amps, subs, deck - all that jazz.
I know what I'm doing, so I'm pretty certain the overall install is not the issue. Battery is still good.
Truck ran fine last night, but this morning will not start. It has *some* power getting to the starter, just not enough. For example, when inserting the key, the warning tone sounds, but is not nearly as loud as it should be. So some power is getting through, but not enough to start the truck. I tried jumping the truck with no change. The battery has good charge, and is relatively new.
I see two possible culprits: Bad battery connection, or fusible link(s).
I'm going to re-check my battery connections, especially since the stereo install included the use of an aftermarket battery terminal. There was some corrosion on the fusible link wire, and I suppose a bad connection is possible, though everything seems solid - just as it was yesterday.
Now I think I remember having a vehicle with similar symptoms and a diagnosis of a bad fusible link. *some* power could get through, and the link hadn't completely broken. So there was some power flowing, but not enough. That's the condition I'm dealing with.
What say you all? And how hard is it to change the fusible link? I've never done it before......
Thanks!
