so the new 80e is now in...
been working on it for a couple of weeks...
list of a few items that were required:
- a 60e to 80e harness adapter
- front VSS pigtail w/ pcm pins (60e has rear only)
- new slip yoke and u-joint (found one that was a direct fit...no cutting or bastard joint required)
- cross-member modified to move tranny mount back several inches
- y-pipe had to be modified as well
- tune segments for tranny calibrations & diagnostics swapped in from a tune out of a truck w/ the same OS as mine but w/ an 80e
so far...so good!

What kind of power are you turning to cause a 4L60E to fail. What size tires? Unless you're draggin' with 500+HP or 37" tires, you shouldn't be killing 4L60Es... Additionally, if you're killing 4L60s, I don't know if a 4L80 will do you much better, because the 80 isn't made for the same purposes the 60 is. IF you're in one of the areas that requires more than a stock 60 can handle, the 60 can be built up quite handily to withstand the increased strain.

rebuild...
yes I do drag race it....
even a Level 5 4L60/65e from FLT is only rated @ about 550 in a heavy a$$ truck...
there are plenty handling more HP in cars for sure...3900 lbs and less...
I'm at 4930 w/ me in it...
and should be @ 600+ HP this go around...
was 400+ with ProCharged stock motor...never broke the stock tranny...
burnt up the 3-4 clutches in the built one under 5k miles with old set-up and new converter...
broke the input drum / shaft w/ the new set-up in under 1k miles...
