I have an 86 K10 with a 350 in it. I put a holley carb on it an the thing ran fine for about 2 months. This morning the engine ran rough. It was ok when idling or when on gas but when you stop at a light or sign it wants to stall. I looked at it when I got home and heard a vacuum leak. Behind the carb there is a fitting that goes into the intake right infront of the dist. What vacuum line goes on there? It has suction when I put my fingure over it.

Til someone with a similar model posts the answer to your question. How about putting a cap on the vacuum port? Does it run OK then?

I did cap it off, the idle changes but it still seems to have the same problem when in drive or reverse of wanting to stall. I did reset the the fuel mixture and bumped the idle up but still no change. This all just came on all of a sudden engine was running beautiful till yesterday morning.
I entered the above earlier today and I just came in from playing with it. Wifes not to happy that I stayed home but oh well. I enjoy older vehicles, don't have the computer to mess with.
I'm not to fond of holley carbs so this is only the second one that I've messed with. I usually go with edelbrock. I unplugged the fitting that is mounted on the intake (stock intake) and it seemed to let the engine rev higher, but it doesn't matter what I do unplugg or plug that fitting the engine still seems to have a miss, also when let idling everything works, charging shows around 14 which with this ever since I got it seems to be the norm. When put in gear the volts drop also with the engine idle. But either way there still seems to be that miss. Like I said before it started yesterday morning, I had to keep foot on the brake and give it gas so it wouldn't stahl when stoped and that was the first time I noticed the sucking sound behind the carb. I intalled new plugs and wires about 5 months ago, just put a new coil on this morning, tried adjusting the dist. also. I thought maybe I knocked a plug wire off when I put new valve covers and gaskets on, that was done sunday.

Does anyone know what fitting on the intake between the carb and dist that I am talking about. It's a stock intake that had a quadrajunk on it originally. I did find a loose spark plug, tightening it didn't change a thing. Changed the fuel filter and got new sprk plug wires that are getting put on tomarrow after work.

How about this ..... can anyone tell me if my stupid 700r4 trans needs a vacuum line hooked up to it? This is only the second 700r4 that I've delt with that I can think of. The first one blew up and I went to the reliable th350. But I have found information saying that it does and that it doesn't. The fitting that I was talk'n about in my other posts is usually ran down to the trans but I can't find a hose laying around or can I find where it would hook up on the trans, which I'm probably just overlooking but any ideas?

The 700r4 had a few changes over the years, some of the early models used a vacuum kick down, some models used an internal mechanical kick down, and some later models were semi-computer controlled. Type of mechanism depended on yr model trans and application it came from.

Well when you use comon sense you will prevail ......... bad cap on ditributer equals fouled plugs ..... replace cap and plugs but still have bad running engine, I would open the throttle and the thing still wanted to stahl ..... so I thought about it and went and bought a 37-119 kit. Holley rebuild kit. I rebuilt carb and presto ...... truck runs like it has a brand new engine in it. So all that cost me one day of work, 14 hours of mess'n with it and another $120 in new parts and accessories that I decided to put on since I was taking things apart. Actually only cost me around $70 for the parts to get it on the road again.

All you need to do is cap it off. Holley's have a few different vacc lines on them. They are all suction. Look on your distributor dep on what kind.. There may be a tiny connection maybe an 1/8 inch that can be connected with just a hose. Otherwise, if you can find no exit on the dist. try and cap it off.
It's capped off. Haven't had anymore problems with it.![]()
