Ok, so I've got the 7.4l 1999 'Burban and I'm trying to get to change out that distributor. But WTH is with putting it where it is!? I can barely even see it, nevermind gett at it!
Any ideas as to how I'm supposed to get to it? Am I supposed to rent a monkey to get in there or something??

I think that may be the one time where renting a monkey will not solve your problem...

Welcome to chevy baby! All chevy does is put the distributor in the rear of the motor and you can't ever get to it. Its the worst design they have ever done and after a million years they never fixed it. I was changing the oil pressure swith and unlike you I could NOT see it because it was at the way back of the block. I ended up getting my neighbor that is 6'6'' to reach back there and help me get it out, yay for people with long arms. However the making the motor sag is a good idea, but its still going to be hard to get in and out of there. I have heard of people having to pull the whole block out to change it, but I don't know how fun that would be. Try the sag method and then if thats not good enough, get a cherry picker and pull that bad boy 7L out of there so you can fix it. Have you ever wondered why its way back there? Here is the answer, so it is harder to hit the distributor and move it. If you hit the little guy even a 1/4 of an inch it messes up your timing completely. It began off by clumsy people bumping the distributor while they were trying to add engine oil which threw off the timing and then the truck ran like crapso then chevy decided to put it in the back to solve this too often problem. However on fords its right up in front for the word to see! But I have personally bumped mine 10 or 20 times so I began putting a timing light in the glove box so I can fix it right away. If you wanted a distributor in the front, you bought the wrong truck, lol. Just messing not a big sacrifice to make for the quality of gm.

lol it slipped my eye, i though distributors were bigger then that

Well I would bet that they make a "Specialty" tool to reach that, you wouldn't believe some of the crap that I have bought in the past to get to stuff like that. I usually buy from Mac tools, because Snap on is way too expensive unless you have a friend at a Chevy dealer. Good luck with the problem, I was lucky enough to not have to change the distributer in my S-10 thankfully.
