I hope you guys know a lot about getting better mileage out of a 5.3 sierra. I'm in North Jersey, two kids out of the house and in the service, one wife to look after. I love this truck, soooooooooooo much nicer than the F..D 150 I had. I just want better gas mileage. Considering a HHO generator and a few cpu mods. Anyone use laptop tuners? Anyone else here want better mileage?

Welcome to the site!! You are definitely not alone in wanting better gas mileage. Improving gas mileage has been my main goal since I bought my truck. So far I have put on a K&N intake and got a Magnaflow muffler replacement. I also have been driving no faster than 60 on my commute to and from work (about 50 miles a day round trip). Before these mods/driving changes, I was getting 16-17.5. Now with those things combined, I get about 18-18.5 MPG, with most of my miles being highway (about 80/20). I will be getting my Hypertech Max Energy programmer tomorrow, so I'm hoping that number will be going up once again.

Glad you're here. I've done a few mods to the burb. K&N filter, 3" catback and I run street tires unless I'm planning an off road adventure. Gas is down to $3.17/gal here but that nothing to brag about. I'm figuring Jan and the prices should dip below $3 and then Whoopie!

I gained 3mpg on my 04 with the AEM Brute Force Intake, another 1mpg with a tonneau, and another 2mpg with my Bully Dog tuner (stock exhaust). Running on 22's with some wide rubber, I was still getting roughly 18mpg in the city. Certainly not getting that with my 08... Havent installed the tuner yet though.

Welcome to the site. Mileage is not a worry for me. 2 mile commute each way. But better gas mileage is always better.Especially since my Avalanche has the 8.1L. Anything i do that gains MPG I will send off in a thread.
Welcome again and happy modding.

Welcome to the site. I am new to the site too. I think a intake , and exhaust is the best way to improve your gas mileage for a little bit of money. I reprogrammed my truck to be more conservative on fuel. What branch are you in? I am in the Air Force. But welcome to the site.
