    Default Just bought a Silverado

Just bought a Silverado Friday, I love it! Anyone else have a 2008 1500? I was wondering about how long it takes to get the truck "broke in" to get the maximum gas mileage out of my truck?

it's faster these days than it used to be in the old days becuase the powertrain is built better overall and they pre-run the engines at the factory at controlled rpms to break them in.

All that being said, I think the owners manual says something like 500 miles. Don't exceed a cerain speed, don't drive at the same speed for more than x period of time, etc.

Yea, I totally love it, and I got an amazing deal on it. I'll have to check the manual and see if it says anything about that break in period. I wasnt aware of the thing driving at certain speeds either...

Does anyone know if the MPG actually get better after the 500 mile break in period?

Yeah, I think that after the first 500 or 1,000 miles you will see an improvement in the mpg, all things being equal.
