Changing from synthetic oil back to conventional

Has anyone else ever heard that once you use synthetic oil in your motor you should not go back to conventional oil? I remember my auto shop teacher telling us that some 10 years back but I don't know how true this is. Whats your take?

Are you wanting to switch back to conventional? Why?

Actually I still use conventional. I don't think I need to go to synthetic as I maintain preventive maintanance on a regular basis. I am just considering options. Also, my coworker got bambuseled by the local jiffy lube to use synthetic in his diesel and he went for it. They pitched 60 extra bucks and twice the milage between oil changes. They said he could go nearly 10K miles then put the 5K milage reminder sticker on his windshield. What a crock. Thanks for the reinforcement guys.

i use syn oil and change every 5k
i dont know why you couldent go back... but why would you

I use Amsoil Synthetic is all my vehicles and would not change back. The Synthetic lube are much superior the the dino stuff. I use the oil, gear lube, ATF, and even the grease for the suspension. I have several friends that drag race and swear by the stuff. Just my 2¢.

synthetic oils have conditioners in them which provide better sealing for gaskets and seals, so in theory if you switch back to conventional oil the absence of these conditioners could possibly create leaking gaskets and seals. Plus its worth the money to use synthetic and go an extra 2000 miles or more between oil changes

Thanks for the info. I am actually lucky that I only pay 45 bucks or so every 9000 miles for an oil change from the dealer.
