I have a '76 Scottsdale and would like to know how the key truly works in them? Also what could be a part that would "fail" or "hang up" on them?
I have a problem where when I turn the key. It does not return to run. It sicks in the start position and has to be manually turned back to run. Any information about the key is welcome!

The return spring is probably broken or out of place.

Thank you GaryL. I was shocked to be honest when I found that my '76 scottsdale has a manual key. My '72 VW bug even has an electric one. (Which I kinda wish this one had)

Got the key working perfect! Well...if there was a key. I finally got pissed at it sticking so I made my own push start. I'll get some pics of it up.'93 Chevrolet Silverado 6.5L Turbo-diesel (Currently most reliable)
