OK, I just changed the oil in my truck. I reset the Oil life monitor using the following procedure:
1. Turned the ignition to ON (engine not running)
2. pressed and released the gas 3 times.
3. Message saying "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" appeared for about 2 seconds
4. Message saying "OIL LIFE RESET" appeared for about 10 seconds.
5. I then started the truck.
6. Message saying 'OIL LIFE RESET" appeared again for about 5 seconds, then the DIC returned to the odometer screen.
OK, prior to doing this, the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message had not yet come on, and my truck does not have all the DIC functions like others do. I only have odometer, trip, and engine hours. I cant see if it reset or not, did I do this right? I have read that you are supposed to turn off the ignition after pumping the gas 3 times, then turn it back on. Does that make a difference, or does the way I did it do the same thing?
Thanks.

I followed the same procedure for my 02 avalanche. It did the same thing and show theoil change needed warning. after starting it. I tried it again but got the same results. I went for a ride and the next time I started the truck it was gone. Maybe the computer needs to see the odometer start to move in order to do the full reset.
