    Question Back up light problems

my trucks' reverse lights are dead dead dead. i've tried replacing bulbs and the unit they plug in to. i've checked fuses. i've tried to check the wiring for damage as best as i could.....still nothing. i'm not real sure what triggers the reverse light to come on, but i don't believe it is that either because the bulbs quit working at different times. all of my other running and brake lights in the unit work fine.....any other ideas at all? i'm fresh out and have just been dealing with no back up lights for a while now.

    Neutral safety switch is bad.

Dinger, have you hooked up a meter to the wires to see if there's any voltage when you pop it into reverse? I'm a little out of my depth when it comes to really bad problems, but that would be the first thing I do to see if there is, for sure, no power getting to the lights when the truck is put into reverse.

Have someone stand behind your truck and see if the reverse lights flash when you put it in reverse. If so adjust the neutral safety switch.

more than likely then it's in or on the transmission and not on the steering column as you wouldn't have an actual neutral safety switch then. that switch is supposed to only allow the vehicle to be started in park or neutal on automatic vehicles. there is a totally different set up on the manual transmission trucks. I would ask a mechanic at the local dealer about this one I'd hate to have you waste time checking current on a light bulb lead that we all know won't have any power going to it since the lights don't light up at all. if it was a situation that they only sometimes come on i would say it was just the reverse switch in the transmission but with no lights ever coming on you are probably just looking at it being a relay... be sure to post the solution on here if you resolve this so i can see if my thoughts on this were right or not because i am pretty sure this is sound advice but I am not a GM certified mechanic, nor do I own anything this new so it would be educational if nothing else.
