The recall for all the troubles, TSB and class action suit was for the 2003-2004 models only. Each dealer can handle different from I have read and discussed with other owners. My 02 was replaced two weeks ago for the Speedo stopping, but they did replace since some of the numbers of the stampings were also a known problem, depends on who you talk to.
Other other hand, sending units will definitely cause your flutter, so will the grounding unit for this and the cluster itself, which may only cause the gas guage this time, could effect the other dials. This is another PITA to determine without testing and norrowing down what is NOT the problem.
So, what year is the truck, new/used, other vehicles bought from the dealer if it was bought there? Good relations? If so, will they cover, split the cost? All factors to the final conclusion.

    Great information.

My gas gauge has the 'hummingbird flutter' it is so fast that it is blurry. The thing is it still reads the tank pretty accurately. Is the gas gauge in the 1999 'burban connected directly to the sender or does it read from the computer like the oil and temp gauges? Foxy is on her third computer and I would hate for this to be a symptom of more ECU problems.
What wire is the one connected to the gauge? What reading should I see with my digita volt meter for a full tank?

How hard is it to replace the sender? Do you have to drop the tank or is it accessible from inside the truck?

My MB has an access panel in the trunk over the sender.

    Thanks for the help!

Thats it!! That is the gauge going, it all depends on how annoying it is to you as those 95-99 dashes is an all in one replacement, for new around $315 and the factory has to set the odometer on those as well, so the dealership needs it for a few days to do the fix. Mine still read accurate but the flutter annoyed the sh*t out of me so I just had it replaced and no problems now for a few years.

Thanks for the bad news! As long as it reads correctly I will live with it until it finally goes...
