URGENT: 2002 Suburban Z71 Idling Rough and Surging
Sorry I had to tag this urgent, but I am looking to purchase an 02 Z71 (pretty well loaded) for a VERY low price.
I took it for a test drive and it handled/drove/stopped great.
At lights and while idling (in drive or in park) the burb would idle pretty wildly (like drop from 1k rmp to 500 and then quickly to back up). The lights would dim and I could feel the car trying to pull me forward as it recovered.
The guy selling it said that he had it checked out and that it is apparently an exhaust leak, on or near the manifold. He won't let me get it inspected (RED FLAG?!?).
I stood outside the car with the hood up as it idled and couldn't really tell. When he hit the gas I could hear a puff-puff-puff noise behind the front driver wheel right as it revved.
Any ideas? Should I stay away from this. It has 120k miles. Everything else looked really good.
Also, I do see the other thread about the 03 with idling issues but it seems to be a different issue (maybe).

I would not buy it with out getting that "supposed leak" inspected no matter how good the deal is.
I think that is a major red flag. I would tell the guy you will not buy it with out gettting that looked at and if he still refuses then the low price is not worth the risk of something more than an exaust leak.
Just my 02 cents
How much does he want for the burb?Ryan

My thought has always been, if you are buying and the seller is telling you that something is wrong then its probably alot worse then they are leading you to believe, STOP and run away from that thing.99 K1500 Suburban LT "THE BEAST"

the owner (a wholesaler, actually) wanted $5300...for a 2002 Z71 with 120k miles
I have decided to pass. He wouldn't even let me take it to get inspected.
Good news though. I am instead buying my dad's 99 Suburban LT with 113k miles that I know has been maintained meticulously. I guess everything worked out!
